20 Hindu Homes Set on Fire in Bangladesh

 The News Cover: In Bangladesh, a photo went viral on social media. The photo showed a copy of Islam’s holy book, the Quran, on the leg of Hindu God Hanuman. People from the Muslim community felt this was a blasphemous act. There were dangerous cases of communal violence. Sixty-six houses were vandalized and at least 20 homes of Hindus were set on fire in Bangladesh. Hindus who had come to the temple were attacked. 

The attackers thrashed more than 200 people. The attackers thrashed and stabbed to death an executive member of the temple committee. At least 150 Hindus have been beaten up and some 80 Durga pandals were attacked across Bangladesh amidst communal violence. Bangladesh's government has deployed paramilitary troops in 22 districts to manage the situation. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has promised strict action against the people involved in the violence. She said, “90 people have been arrested. They will be strictly punished after investigating. We are also looking to catch the mastermind behind the attacks.
