The News Cover: Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, it is crucial to maintain oral hygiene. India Today news channel had shared some tips given by Dentists, on how to keep your mouth clean and teeth strong. Let me tell you about them. It is important to ensure that toothbrushes from the same family are not in the same container. Our mouth is a reservoir of infections & viruses. Once you brush and keep it back in the container, it can lead to cross-contamination. Toothbrushes must be kept separately regardless of the pandemic to prevent the spread of coronavirus and other infections.

If a person has COVID-19 but is asymptomatic and the brushes are kept together, it can lead to the spreading of the virus. Hence, it is better to keep brushes separate. After brushing your teeth, make sure you use a toothbrush cover for protection. The toothbrush will ensure there is no cross-infection. Always store your toothbrush with the headcover in an upright position. This helps faster drying and makes sure there is no spread of germs. 3. Regularly wash your toothbrush container. After brushing your teeth make sure you wash them in warm water to kill all germs.

Regularly disinfect brushes & tongue scraper with Povidone Iodine 0.2% or Hydrogen Peroxide diluted in water. 4. Dentists recommend not sharing the same toothpaste tube among family members. You may be surprised. Well, this is because, when you put toothpaste on the toothbrush, the tube comes in contact with germs present on the brush. If someone else uses the toothpaste, there is a risk of infection. Hence, it is best to have personal toothpaste and tongue scrapers. To contain the spread of infection. 5.

Suppose a family is sharing one container for all their brushes. Once a family member tests positive for COVID-19, all dental products must be discarded. like toothpaste, tongue scraper, etc. Each individual must have their own and there should be no sharing. Once the patient tests negative, all their toothbrushes and dental products must be changed. This reduces even the slightest risk of infection. The above points are helpful to maintain oral hygiene for COVID patients and family members.
