The News Cover: Can Animals have covid 19? 8 Asiatic lions tested positive for covid 19 in the Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad, India. According to a report published by the PIB on the 4th of May The lions were reportedly tested positive after showing signs of breathing problems and loss of appetite.

The disease was most likely (transmitted) from either a zoo staff or people in close contact with the lions. The report states that the infection was not caused by any variant of concern and that the lions are now being isolated and are receiving due treatment. after the incident But this is definitely not the first case of covid in animals.

In April last year, a Tiger from a US Zoo was the first animal to ever get tested positive for covid. Post that, animals like : minks, cats, dogs, snow leopards, cougars, and even gorillas tested positive for covid. While there is still a lot more research that needs to be done to find out about covid in animals, the chances of it getting life-threatening are extremely rare.

Most pets that get covid have mild symptoms and can be taken care of from home. The CDC recommends the same precautions for animals as for humans. ;) While the exact origin of covid-19 is still unknown, the CDC reports that it originally did come from an animal - most likely a bat. However, the chances of the disease transmission from your pet animal to yourself (or other humans) are extremely low MASK UP!
