Movie 'Dangal' Wrestler Babita Phogat’s cousin Ritika allegedly commits suicide after losing wrestling match

The News Cover: Today 18th March morning Indian wrestling fans got a huge shock. 17-year-old wrestler Ritika Phogat had committed suicide. People were devastated by the news. 

Who is Ritika Phogat? You all know the movie 'Dangal' starring Amir Khan who had 4 daughters. The character was based on the life of Mahavir Phogat. Two of daughters were Geeta & Babita Phogat, who were trained by their fathers. The movie was based on this story. Ritika Phogat was their cousin. 

Ritika was a resident of Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu. She had trained under Mahavir Singh Phogat for over 5 years at his own Mahavir Phogat Sports Academy in Haryana. Ritikia had participated in the state-level wrestling tournament in Rajathan's Bharatpur. Ritika lost the match by 1 point. Extremely saddened by the defeat, she hung herself at the home of her uncle Mahavir Singh Phogat in Haryana. The shocking incident occured on 17th March. 

Haryana's Charkhi Dadri District Superintendent of Police Ram Singh Bishnoi said, “Ritika died by suicide on 17th March at her uncle's residence. The news came out on 18th March. The reason behind it might have been her defeat at a recent wrestling tournament in Rajasthan. Vijay Kumar Singh, Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, was one of the first to confirm the news of Ritika's suicide on social media. 

He tweeted that "I am devasted by her suicide. Her suicide could have been avoided. She was highly capable of excellening further. Shattered over her death. Decades ago international athletes never faced much pressure. However, now times have changed. There is a lot of pressure due to strong competition. Along with physical training, athletes must be given mental training to deal with such pressures.
