In Uttar Pradesh's Hathras, a news about the 19 year old girl at the Delhi hospital has gone viral. People were shocked to learn about the deep cut in her tongue, her broken spine and fractured bones. People were extremely distressed when they learnt about her trauma. She died at the Delhi hospital on 29th September.

When the body was taken by the ambulance, the girl's family were devasted and bitterly crying. Protesters outside the Delhi hospital chanted "hang the rapists". The woman's brothers complained that her body had been whisked away by the UP police without their knowledge. Her father and brothers sat on protest but they were taken away by the cops in a black Scorpio with UP plates.

They weren't given any information. The woman's father pleaded with the police to be allowed to take her home to Hathras and cremate her in the morning. But they refused. The ambulance reached hathras at midnight. The girl's family and villagers suspected the UP police. They suspected the police want an immediate wanted cremation to cover up their lapses in investigation. While the police drove the girl's body to the Hathras, on the way, her mother and other female relatives blocked the vehicle and were crying a lot. The mother of the girl, sat on the road sobbing and beating her chest. The police then pushed away the women and other protestors and kept driving.

On reaching the funeral grounds, the Hathras police formed a human chain around the cremation grounds to keep reporters and villagers away. The police then cremated her. According to sources, the girl's family was locked at home. Her family could not see her at all before the cremation. The woman's father said, “I requested to perform the last rites to be performed according to the Hindu traditions. The police ignored our requests and completed the cremation. We couldn't see our daughter's face for the last time.” The Hathras police dismissed his claims.

They said the cremation was carried out with the family's consent and some members were present. Only her uncle was allowed to attend the the cremation. The District Magistrate Praveen Kumar Laxkar on 30th September at a press conference said, “We have videos of family members present there. Some news agencies are spreading baseless claims that the family was not allowed for the cremation. The family has said they complained that she was raped and severely injured. However, the police did not believe the parents and only registered a case of attempted murder.

Later when the girl regained consciousness, she told the police about her rape. That's when they registered a case of rape. All four attackers, upper caste men from the woman's village, are in jail. A senior official said rape had not been confirmed and they were waiting for a forensic report. In a tweet, CM Yogi Adityanath said that PM Modi spoke to him about the incident and that strict action will be taken against the 4 culprits. On 30th September CM Adityanath formed a three-member SIT to investigate the case. The team will submit a report in seven days and direct the trial of the case in a fast-track court.
